James 'Jim' Harms, 60 of Remsen, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026 at Orange City Area Health Systems in Orange City, Iowa.
Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2026 at All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. There will not be any visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, monetary memorials in Jim's name or memorial gifts are preferred.
James Allen Harms was born on November 9, 1965 in Le Mars, Iowa to Donald and Marlys (Campbell) Harms. He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1984. He worked for a few years in construction before becoming employed at Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars where he worked for 40 years.
Jim was united in marriage to Amy Wright on December 4, 1993 at First Presbyterian Church of Union Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. They made their home on the Wright farm in rural Remsen.
Jim was a jack of trades, master of a few. He really enjoyed working with his hands, using his construction skills to remodel and build. His favorite time was spent on the water fishing. He took a trip to South Dakota every year with his dad, and the tradition has continued with his brothers. Jim and Amy also loved to go camping to Lake View, Iowa where they also enjoyed fishing together. They recently took Jim’s dream vacation, an extended stay in Hawaii, in August of 2026.
Jim was a kind man who would help anyone who asked. He enjoyed giving back, volunteering for Just Feed One and donating to Make A Wish Foundation.
Jim was a proud dad and grandpa; he was always just a quick phone call away to lend an ear or a hand. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy Harms; six children: Leah (Brandon) Stanger, Erica (Ryan) Kuiken, Joshua (Stacie) Schiltz, Skylar Casson, Makenzie (Dustin) Wurth, and Adam Harms; sixteen grandchildren; parents in law: Gloria (Chris) Burkard and Ken Wright; siblings: Rose (Bob) Ruba, Lynn (Dave) Ruba, Gene (Chris) Harms, Larry (Betty) Harms, Doug (Lori) Harms, and Mary Morris; brother in law, Brian Tullis; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julie Sitzmann; and brothers in law: Ron Morris and Kurt Tullis.
