Janet A. Borchers, 91, of Le Mars, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars after a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will start at 3 p.m. Her family invites you to join them for a reception and continued time of fellowship following the Celebration of Life at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Craig, Iowa.
Janet Amelia Harrison was born on November 19, 1933, to Eugene H. and Amelia (Petersen) Harrison on a farm in Washington Twp. near Le Mars, IA. The family later moved to Le Mars. Janet attended and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1952, where she was a cheerleader and a member of homecoming royalty.
Janet and Thomas Borchers were married on August 11, 1972, in Elk Point, SD. Of this union, Amy (Borchers) Skov was born. They made their home in Le Mars. Jan worked at Custom Interiors, A. J. Masuen Company, and retired from Harker's Wholesale Meats.
Jan and Tom enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 19 years following their retirement. Jan was an avid bowler and golfer. She excelled at both and achieved many trophies for both sports. Jan was a friend to many. She was kind and thoughtful, sending cards to everyone she knew for all occasions. She loved gardening and being outdoors. She also enjoyed playing cards and playing Mah Jongg with friends. Her family was her greatest joy. Tom passed away on December 14, 2021, following a lengthy illness after 49 ½ years of marriage.
Jan is survived by daughter, Amy (Andre) Skov; grandchildren: Lexa (Pierce) Almond, Luke, Metta, Mya; and great-granddaughter Leni Almond. Three children and family from Jan's previous marriage: daughter, Vicky Arens; grandchildren: Laura (Brent) Rickabaugh; great-grandchildren: Frankie (Matthew) Plorins, Alec (Hannah) Rickabaugh, Braeden Rickabaugh; and great-great-grandson Beckham Rickabaugh, Christina (Eric) Kellen, great-grandchildren Carter Kellen, Grace Kellen, Britton Kellen and Logan Kellen, Alison (Jeremy) McPherson, great-grandchildren Kolby McPherson, Ava McPherson, and Elly McPherson; son, Scott (Julie) Lauters; grandchildren Eric Lauters, Kara Rollinger; great-grandchildren Kaiden Jackson, Griffyn Rollinger and Archie Rollinger; and daughter, Beth Edmonds; grandchildren: Charlotte (Steven) Villarreal, Claire Edmonds; and great-grandson Rhett Villarreal; sister Karen Roche; and many nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Borchers; parents, Eugene H . and Amelia Harrison; her mother and step father-in-law, William G. and Leona (Borchers) Ludwigs; siblings: Leonard (Alice) Harrison, Merlin (Lavon) Harrison, Wilma (Bud) Masuen, Bob (Mary) Harrison; brother-in-law Ted Roche; several nephews and one niece.
