Obituary

Janice Kay Morehead, 82, of Akron, Iowa, entered into the joy of heaven on March 6, 2025.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday April 21, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Reverend Eric Alm will officiate.  Private family burial service was at Riverside Cemetery in Akron.  Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

She was born in Akron, Iowa on February 23, 1943.  At the age of one year, Janice developed spinal meningitis which left her with permanent disabilities. Penicillin had just been developed and was provided to Janice during her hospitalization. Though it arrived too late to avoid permanent damage, it did allow her to recover without further complications. Janice lived her life as fully as possible. Her sweet and uncomplaining disposition never left her, endearing her especially to her extended family and the Akron Care Center staff. She was beloved and she loved.

She attended Akron Public School, worked at her step father's dry-cleaning business and helped with household duties.  Janice had a very special relationship with her mother who she lived with until her mother's death in 2005.  Janice then lived independently at the Ridgewood Apartments until she moved to the Akron Care Center seven years ago.

Janice was an avid reader, had a great recall of family history, and enjoyed visiting.  She deeply appreciated all of the people who visited her both at Ridgewood and the Akron Care Center. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Janice is survived by nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Morehead; several cousins; and by step-sisters Angela and Stephanie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Christine Morehead; her stepfather, Ty Ryan; and her brothers: Norman Morehead, Virgil and sister-in-law, Shirley Morehead; and stepsister Jackie Manning.

Special thanks to the staff at Akron Care Center, St Croix Hospice, and extended family for love for and care of Janice.  Thanks also to a special niece, Nancy Bramstedt.
