Jerry J. Bertrand, 74 of rural Akron, SD, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Memorial services were held for family. Burial is at St. Patrick Cemetery in Akron, IA. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Akron, IA. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Jerry John Bertrand was born on July 2, 1950 to Spencer and Lucille (Heitman) Bertrand on the family farm in rural Plymouth County, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Westfield High School in 1968. Jerry began farming alongside his father at a young age and continued to farm until his passing. Besides farming, Jerry also enjoyed riding motorcycles and had several beloved dogs.

Jerry is survived by two sisters: Vera Kapfer and Mary Ann McGonigle; 5 nephews: Mark, Terry, David, Ed and Paul; 5 nieces: Cindy, Lisa, Mae, June, and Karen; 2 great nephews; 2 great nieces; and other extended relatives.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers in law: Gary McGonigle and Don Kapfer.
