Joan Wiese, 81, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, from a brief illness. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Reverend Timothy Geitz and Reverend Steven Stoll will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Following the service, please join the family for lunch and fellowship, all at the church. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Joan Ellen Peters, the daughter of Harold and Vivian (Crane) Peters, was born on July 23, 1942, in Wagner, South Dakota. She grew up in Armour, South Dakota, where she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Hank and Evelyn Johnson. She attended school in Armour and graduated from Armour High School.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Wiese on September 2, 1960, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars. Early on, Joan was a homemaker for her family. Later on, she went to work as a cook at the Abbey in Le Mars and later at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars. She then went to work for the Pride Group in Le Mars until her retirement. Raymond passed away on September 6, 2014. Joan continued to make her home in Le Mars. In May of 2023, she moved to Prime Assisted Living in Le Mars.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter: Cindy (Randy) Riediger of Hinton, Iowa, and their family: Carlee (Austin) Sitzmann and their children, Calvin and Casen, Jenna (Matt) Finch and their children, Brooke, Margo, and Lee, and Riley (Tabitha) Riediger; a daughter: Sandra (Todd) Erickson of Bondurant, IA, and their children: Cassi (Dakota) Cannon and their children, Issac and one daughter on the way, and Shauna (Nick) Plorins and their daughter, Adelaide; a daughter: Brenda (Tom) Ruhland of Le Mars, IA, and their children: Tyler Simons and Cole (Mariya) Simons and their children, Emersyn and Kasey; a daughter: Rachel (Tom) Durr of Le Mars, IA, and their children: Brittney Mulder (fiancé, Ang Koerner), Scott (Kelsey) Durr and their son, Cooper, and Aislinn Durr; sister in law, Bernice Reiter of Le Mars; special nieces and nephew: Laurie Kluver, Linda Williams, and Bill D Wiese; and several other nieces and nephews. Her half sisters: Connie Span, Betty DeRosier Shaw, and Sandy (Steve) Martino.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; her aunt and uncle, Hank and Evelyn Johnson; infant daughter, Nancy LaRae Wiese; a sister, Joyce Wiese; a brother, Noel "Pete" Peters; two brothers in law, William Wiese and Darrell Reiter; and a son in law, Jim Dixson.
