Joel Nason , 44, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, August 22, 2022, at his home.

Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Pastor Suzi Larson from Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate. Private family burial will be prior to the services at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Joel Thomas Nason, the son of Tom and Julie (Root) Nason, was born on March 27, 1978 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 1996. He continued his schooling at Western Iowa Tech Community College and received his Associates of Applied Science degree in Automotive and Diesel Technology.

Following college, he worked for Heyl Trucklines in Akron as a mechanic and helped his father on the farm. Later, he owned and operated Maximum Performance auto and diesel repair shop in Alcester, South Dakota. After several years in Alcester, he moved to the family farm west of Akron and operated Spring Creek Repair.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. He loved working on trucks and tractors. He also enjoyed watching and participating in many tractors pulls. His love of bowling started at an early age. He bowled in many tournaments and bowled league in Akron for many years. In his younger years, he enjoyed boating and camping with his family.

Survivors include his parents, Tom and Julie Nason of Akron, IA; a sister, Tricia (Mike) Tarrell of Sioux Falls, SD, and their children, Alex, Aedyn, and Ryleigh; a sister, Jeaneen (Jay) Mathewson of North Sioux City, SD, and their children, Kayla (Jason), Brenden, Cameron, Marinda, Nicole (Tim), Courtney (Justin), and Justin; 4 great nephews; a special aunt, Bev Donily of Akron, IA; and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Root; his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Ruth Nason; and a niece, Alexa Tarrell.
