John Donlin , 77, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery – Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:00 p.m. followed by a 4 th Degree Chalice Presentation, all at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. John Francis Donlin, the son of Joseph and Gertrude (Hoffman) Donlin, was born January 13, 1945, in Le Mars, Iowa. John grew up on a farm south of Le Mars and attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Gehlen Catholic High School. John then went to work with his father on the farm.
In 1970, he moved to Sioux City and worked as a supervisor at Goodwill Industries. In 1974, he went to work at the Brickyard in Sioux City and later with Younkers in the Southern Hills Mall. In July of 1987, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri and worked at Forest Park Hospital. In August of 2002, he retired and moved back to Le Mars.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars and was a eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 1466 and the 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus Michael J. McGiviney Assembly 3088 in Le Mars. He participated in many 4 th Degree honor guards. He worked with the Senior Companion program in Le Mars and volunteered with Hospice of Siouxland. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his sister, Joan (Dennis) Guinane of Glenwood, Iowa; his nieces and nephews: Robert Donlin (Kate), Michael (Kara) Donlin, Crystal Donlin, Cheryl (Michael) Ward, Donna (Gerald) Wade, Connie (Chris) Hammel, Brian Donlin, and Melissa (Andy) Wilke; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jospeh and Gertrude Donlin; 2 brothers: Larry Donlin and Francis "Fritz" Donlin; and a sister, Mary Ann Donlin.
