Obituary

Joyce Stusse, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars and Hinton, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Whispering Creek Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church with a meal at noon. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars. Joyce Klingebiel was born on February 1, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa to Walter and Bessie (Lowry) Klingebiel. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1947.

She was united in marriage to Donald Stusse on December 27, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. The couple farmed near Hinton, growing crops and raising livestock. Joyce always had several meals prepared for whoever was helping Don on the farm. They retired from farming in 1993. They continued to live on the homestead until moving to Le Mars in 2006. In the fall of 2015, they moved to Whispering Creek Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Joyce enjoyed sewing, playing cards, gardening, and canning. Her favorite time was spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she loved hosting them at the farm during the summer months. Her faith was a very important part of her life, and she was currently a member at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa.

Survivors include three children: Ann (Steve) Peterson of South Sioux City, NE, Allen (Cindy) Stusse of Hinton, IA, and Annette (Scott) Slifka of Center Point, IA; 10 grandchildren: Heather (Tom) Noll, Robin (Kenny) Torczon, Christopher (Amy) Peterson, Tyler (Sarah) Peterson, Ryan (Marni) Stusse, Jill (Stusse) Echols, Renae (Justin) Rouhoff, Randi (John) Steger, Travis (Haley) Slifka, and Trevor (Skyler) Slifka; 25 great- grandchildren; two brothers: Charles (Elaine) Klingebiel and Donald Klingebiel; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her grandson: Rich Stusse; her brother, Robert (Dolores) Klingebiel; and sister in law, Donna Klingebiel.
