Kay Van Oort, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at her home in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Meredith from the First Baptist Church in Le Mars will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Kay Darlene Albeck, the daughter of Alex and Bernadine (Edmeier) Albeck, was born on November 24, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa. She lived in Sioux City until the age of 11, when she moved with her family to Sheldon, Iowa, where she attended school.

She was united in marriage to Bernie Van Oort on August 8, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa, while Bernie was on leave from the Navy. While he was at sea, she remained at home until he was stateside in New Jersey. She joined him at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Their first child, Bob, was born in the Navy hospital.

Following Bernie's discharge in 1955, they settled in Sioux City, Iowa. Their second child, Julie, was born. While Bernie was working for Kinney Shoes, he was transferred to Hutchinson, Kansas. They lived there for 2 years and their son, Tom, was born. They returned back to Sioux City for a couple of years. He was then transferred to Waterloo, Iowa. They lived there from 1961 to 1967.

After all the moves, they wanted to get back to Northwest Iowa. In 1967, the settled in Cherokee, Iowa. They lived there for 27 years. During this time, their daughter, Lori, was born. Kay worked at Walnut Grove Products for 19 years until they retired and decided to "RV" for a while.

Time was spent between Texas in the winter where their daughter, Julie, and her family lived. They spent the summers in Iowa near the rest of the family. After 7 years of this, they decided to settle down in Iowa, and the first year was spent back in Cherokee. Kay was spending a lot of time in Le Mars with Lori and her family, so they decided to move there. They loved it and they made many wonderful friends there. Bernie passed away on February 1, 2015.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. She was also a member of Christian Women's Club for several years. Kay loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, and attending bible studies.

Survivors include her two children: Bob (Mary) Van Oort of Springfield, SD, and Lori Dolph (Doug Harms) of Le Mars, IA; her grandchildren: Jim (Megann) Van Oort, Matt Van Oort (Ashley), Mike (Melissa) Van Oort, Mark (Nikki) Van Oort, Shaun Van Oort (Elysha), David Van Oort (Charlene), Abraham (Jamie) Maske, Jeremy (Christine) Maske, Heather (Willie) Rhodes, Holly (Caleb) Curtis, Brandy (Bruce) Powell, Joe (Stacey) Van Oort, Michelle (John) York, Andy Appledorn, Morgan (Jaz) Hanson, Kyle (Maggie) Dolph, and Michael Harms; several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; her in laws: Sandy Albeck of Holiday Island, AR, and Frank Haase of Glenwood, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother in law, Wein and Gertrude (Oldenkamp) Van Oort; her husband, Bernie Van Oort; two children: Tom Van Oort and Julie Morrison; her sons in law: Larry Morrison and Steve Dolph; her siblings: Roy Albeck and Ann Haase; a great granddaughter, Hensley Harms; a niece, Tracy Bomer; and a nephew, Frankie Warner.
