Kermit Stofferan , 84, of Oyens, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at his home in Oyens.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
Kermit Marvin Stofferan was born April 3, 1936 on a farm near Archer, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Mable (Johnson) Stofferan. He grew up in Ocheyedan, Iowa.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955. He served his country as a mechanic during the end of the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
Following his service, he returned to Northwest Iowa and began his career in road construction. He spent the majority of time with Rohlin Construction out of Estherville, Iowa. He retired in 2005.
He was united in marriage to Janice Cue on December 3, 1958. To this union, 5 children were born: Kris, Chuck, Kathi, Kerrie, and Mike. They later divorced.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Van Dam on January 7, 1983 in Le Mars. In 1985, they moved to Oyens, Iowa. Patricia passed away November 4, 2012.
Kermit enjoyed being working outdoors, whether it was mowing his yard or tending to his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage and going fishing.
Survivors include his 5 children: Kris Stofferan (Fernando Martinez) of Waterloo, IA, Chuck (Julie) Stofferan of Marcus, IA, Kathi Athens of Sioux City, IA, Kerrie (Mike) Riepma of Struble, IA, and Mike Stofferan of Oyens, IA; 10 grandchildren; 18 ½ great grandchildren; 4 brothers: Vernon (Janet) Stofferan of Sibley, IA, Marvin (Monica) Stofferan of Ashton, IA, Bill (Julie) Stofferan of Sioux Falls, SD, and Richard (Bobby) Stofferan of Ocheyedan, IA; 2 sisters in law: Darlene Stofferan of Sibley, IA, and Lois Stofferan of Sibley, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mable Stofferan; his wife, Patricia Stofferan; 2 sisters: Marilyn (Frank) Kruger and Marvena (Lonnie) Bauerly; and 2 brothers: Norman Stofferan and Hubert Stofferan.
