Larry Kots, 83 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026 at All Saints Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Le Mars Fire and Rescue.
Larry Lloyd Kots was born on February 3, 1943 in Orange City, Iowa to Lloyd and Lorraine (Boone) Kots. He was raised in Maurice, Iowa and attended Maurice Community Schools. Larry was raised in the Presbyterian faith and later converted to Catholicism.
Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Ann Stoos on September 14, 1963. They lived in Minnesota and Orange City, Iowa before making their home in Le Mars. Larry worked with his brother in law while in Minnesota and at Diamond Vogel while in Orange City. After they moved to Le Mars, Larry began working at Supersweet Feeds in Le Mars. Larry retired from Supersweet Feeds after 43 years of service, having worked his way through multiple departments—from trucking, production, and maintenance to management.
Larry was a long time member of All Saints Parish in Le Mars. He and Pat enjoyed traveling together and Larry especially enjoyed visiting light houses. They belonged to a camping club and made many fond memories as a family while camping. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Larry was a gifted woodworker, an art he perfected and self taught. Over the years he built many items including shelves, toys, cradles, rocking horses, and decorations, and also used his talents on numerous home projects and remodels.
Larry is survived by his two children: Barbara (Brian) Sanow of Remsen, Iowa and Michael (Angie) Kots of Clarinda, Iowa; five grandchildren: Ben (Savana) Lehner, Branden (Nicole) Lehner, Zach Sanow, Matthew (Katie) Kots, and Matthan Kots; three great grandchildren: Roman, Aiden, and Rhett and one on the way; siblings: Loren (Henny) Kots of Sioux Falls, SD, Luann (Bob) Whittrock of Cherokee, IA, Lyle Kots of Whiting, IA, and Lola Kots; brother in law, Marion 'Butch' VanderLaan of Maurice, IA; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; parents in law, Paul and Phyllis (Reints) Stoos; wife, Pat Kots (2024); and sister, Linda VanderLaan.
