Larry Waterbury, 80, of Elk Point, South Dakota, formerly of Akron and Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City.
Abiding by his wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
Larry Lee Waterbury, the son of Fay and Luceen (Steinhart) Waterbury, was born October 24, 1941, in Union County, South Dakota. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1959.
He enlisted in the United States Army on August 24, 1961. He was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1964.
He was united in marriage to Joanne Myers. They made their home in Akron, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Ray and Greg. They later divorced and Larry moved to Sioux City.
Larry worked in the wastewater departments, first in Akron, then at I.B.P. and finally in Sioux City. He later became a custodian for Sioux City Public Schools, working there until his retirement.
Following his retirement, Larry moved to Armour, SD, and then to Springfield, SD, before settling in Elk Point.
Larry loved to garden and to can his produce. He also loved to cook. He enjoyed fishing and took many trips to Canada. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to see his family and friends. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed attending the College World Series for many years and watching the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his two children: Ray Waterbury of Caldwell, ID, and Greg (Missi) Waterbury of Ponca, NE, and their children, Brayden and Gaige; 2 brothers: Fay "Babe" Waterbury Jr. and Merlowe (Chau) Anderson; 2 sisters: Kay Anderson and Carol (John) Wiersma; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fay and Luceen Waterbury and Milford Anderson; his brothers: Kervin Charles Waterbury, Marlin Alroy Waterbury, Michael Eric "Mike" Anderson; and his sisters: Janiece Waterbury Waterman, Lori Anderson Hansen, and Joan Waterbury Coleman.
