Laura Leigh Nelson, 64, of Le Mars, passed away on March 24, after a short battle with cancer.

She was born on March 22, 1960, in Le Mars, Iowa to Herman Bremer and P. Denney.

Laura attended elementary and junior high school in California before moving back to Iowa, where she graduated from Le Mars Community in 1978.

She is survived by her two kind and hardworking daughters: Kelli Meister (Greg) of Le Mars, and Kim Harth (Adam) of Merrill; three sisters: Julie Schoenherr (Russ) of Sioux City, Christy Weed (Marty) of Le Mars, and Susan Pluegar (Jim) of Le Mars; three beautiful granddaughters: Zoey, Kaylee, and Olivia Meister; her parents: Herman Bremer (Beverly) and P. Denney Le Mars; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her daughter Katie Rohmiller (2005), a nephew Shawn Weed, her maternal grandmother Kathleen Junker, her paternal grandmother Jennie Bremer, and her beloved dog, Scooter, who passed away on March 22nd.

Laura had a passion for working with her hands. She loved to up-cycle nearly anything she could find a creative use for. She took orders for her original designs and for projects that needed her expertise in rehabilitation. She also loved to cook and bake; her oatmeal cake was a family favorite. Laura also took care of others through respite care. Her caring hands took care of many shut-ins who needed assistance around their own homes.  She will be missed by many who became not only clients, but friends. Laura was a creative, unique, and strong-willed woman - a Sunflower among the Roses.

Visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., all on Thursday evening, March 28, 2024 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home (107 12th St SE, Le Mars, IA 51031).
