LaVon Marcine (Fickbohm) Maynard, age 96, passed away on January 17, 2025 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will begin at noon on Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Akron Care Center, both in Akron, Iowa.

She was born on January 13, 1929 to Lloyd and Esther (Peterson) Fickbohm in Union County, SD. She attended elementary school at Hoyt and graduated from Akron High School in 1946. LaVon was united in marriage to Lawrence Maynard on September 7, 1947 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural South Dakota just outside Akron,Iowa.

LaVon was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She volunteered as the secretary/treasurer for the Church Women United for 20 years. She was also a charter member of the YOMACO Club in Akron.  She was a devoted farm wife who loved to cook, trying new recipes all the time.  She and her husband loved to dance and traveled to follow their favorite bands. She was a loving aunt, who despite the 1000 mile distance, kept in touch with family and never missed a birthday or holiday card.

LaVon is survived by her husband of 77 years, Lawrence; niece, Mary Sever; nephew, Mark Sever; several grand nieces and nephews; other extended relatives; good friends: Connie and Orin Blake, and Bob Popken.

LaVon is preceded in death by her parents; parents in law, Sidney and Iris (Bihlmeyer) Maynard; and sister, Marian (Neal) Sever.
