Lavonne K. Buum, 92 of Akron, IA, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Akron Care Center.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Burial will follow at Union Creek Cemetery in rural Akron, Union County, SD. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Friday morning at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Lavonne Kathleen Lamoureux was born on October 8, 1932 in Akron, IA to Clifford and Opal (Ferris) Lamoureux. She was raised in Akron and attended Akron community schools.
Lavonne began working as a waitress at the Trio Cafe, which was owned by her mother. Lavonne was united in marriage to Wayne E. Buum on April 29, 1950 in Akron, IA where they made their home. Lavonne primarily stayed home raising their four children: Gregory, Gary, Gordon, and Glenda. Once the children were older, she did work at Otis Radio in Hawarden.
Lavonne loved to garden; she loved flowers and grew lots of produce, which she used in her canning and cooking. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved playing cards, working on puzzles, playing Yahtzee, and even spending a little time at the casino. Her favorite time was spent hosting family and friends, especially while swinging on her front porch swing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she helped babysit many of them while they were growing up.
Lavonne is survived by her four children: Gregory (Coleen) Buum of Armstrong, IA, Gary (Garnet) Buum of McPherson, KS, Gordon (MeYoung) Buum of Leesville, LA, and Glenda (Todd) Plendl of Remsen, IA; 17 grandchildren: Tricia (Wade) Evenson, Melissa (Steve) Sisneros, Amy Hoyer, Kristin (Anthony Christ) Buum, Allie (Dustin) Forsythe, Cassandra (Kyle) Rolling, Danielle (Craig) Merrill, Anthony (Erica) Buum, Michael (Marcie) Buum, Kevin (Meghan) Buum, Eric Buum, Daniel (Marlena) Buum, Joseph (Angela) Buum, Travis (Shelly) Oetken, Brooke (Tom) Huls, Traci (Mitch) DeRocher, and Brianna Plendl; 38 great grandchildren: Holden, Sawyer, Colby, Sophie, Kadie, Nataly, Steven, Kayla, Madison, Aspyn, Baker, Oakley, Remington, Riley, Reed, Aubri, Caiden, Adaline, Myles, Max, Macy, Ava, Jaxson, Kayla, Cadence, Ava, Gracie, Ivy, Kristina, Logan, Wyatt, Graham, Laytin, Gabby, Bentli, Stella, Leo, and Wesli; 2 great great grandchildren: Kinslee and Kylie; sisters: Mary (John) Rollins of Akron and Cleone DeBruin of Larchwood, IA; brother in law, Jack Miller; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Opal (Ferris) Lamoureux; husband, Wayne Buum; siblings: Arnold (Jean) Lamoureux, Dennis (Elsie) Lamoureux, Dolores (Archie) Rozell, and Ruth Miller; and brother in law, Butch DeBruin.
