LeAnn Hurlbut, 87, of Marcus, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Steven Broers from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be 10:00 a.m. until service time and following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship, all at Rexwinkel Funeral Home. LeAnn Edna Cornils, the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Kamm) Cornils, was born on May 24, 1939, in Anthon, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm in Woodbury County, Iowa. She attended school in Bronson and graduated from Bronson High School in 1957. While in high school, she played on the girls basketball team. She attended Wayne State College for a short time.

She was united in marriage to Donald Hurlbut on June 6, 1958, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Early on, they made their home in Sioux City where LeAnn was a homemaker for her family. In 1964, they moved to Le Mars, Iowa. After her children were grown, she went to work in food service for Westmar College in Le Mars. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Donn-Lee Trucking in Le Mars, where she was the bookkeeper. They operated the trucking business until their retirement in 2002. Don passed away on September 10, 2015. LeAnn continued to make her home in Le Mars until August of 2021, when she became a resident of Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

LeAnn was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Auxiliary Post 241 of Le Mars. She was an avid sports fan. She loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Indiana Fever, Minnesota Vikings, and the Minnesota Twins, and her grandsons sporting events. She and Don enjoyed attending many NASCAR races. They loved the time spent at Lake Okoboji at their trailer. She also enjoyed playing cards and Farkle. LeAnn loved dogs, especially her many Wiener dogs that she had over the years.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl (Brad) Brooks of Merrill, IA; her grandchildren: Kyle (Emily) Brooks of Sioux Falls, SD, and their children: Rylen, Harlow, and Mila; Korey (Meghan) Brooks of Pleasant Hill, IA, and their children: Jamison, Ruby, and Bodhe; and Kolin (Cassandra) Brooks of Omaha, NE, and their children: Elijah and Emmett; a step granddaughter: Lisa (Duane) Horton of Otto, WY, and their children: Sydney and Seth; a sister in law, Jan (Charles) Johnson of Sioux City, IA; a brother in law, Jerry (Diane) Hurlbut of Mooresville, NC; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mildred Cornils; her husband, Donald Hurlbut; her son, Randall Hurlbut; and a great granddaughter, Allie Brooks.
