The angels from above gently lifted Lois Newberg into heaven on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 to join her husband of 73 years, Bedford.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2019 at Hinton United Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Rexwinkel Funeral Home is assisting with services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: AbuBekr Shrine Transportation Fund, Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church, or Sunrise Retirement Center.

Lois was born on June 25, 1922 at the family home near Merrill, Iowa.  She was raised with modest means and a strong moral compass.  Bedford and Lois lived on the family farm near Hinton, Iowa during their lifetime.  She graduated from Liberty Consolidated School.

She was a member of Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church, active member with church for over 70 years, past Sunday school teacher, and women's organization, Azure Chapter 540 Eastern Star, Hathor Temple 38 Daughter of Nile, past president of Ladies Farm Bureau, Abu Beker Shrine Auxiliary making articles for children, also Hospital Dad's "Mom" and Wrecking Crew.  The couple were honored with the Farm Bureau Award of Plymouth County as a 50 year member.

Lois' first love was her husband and her family.  She was a devoted wife, a selfless, nurturing mother, and a kind and gracious friend.  Lois exemplified kindness, compassion, grace and unconditional love to all.  She was and is a beautiful lady, inside and out.  Mom loved to cook and bake, which was a source of pleasure, as well as the thread that connected her in various roles throughout her years. She always enjoyed sewing and hand crocheting afghans for grandchildren and attending all their school activities.  Lois enjoyed caring for flowers and gardening, reading and crossword puzzles.  She loved handiwork, sewing for Shrine children and church work.

She treasured the time she spent with her husband and children, and when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, they held a special place in her heart.  Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.  We will miss you Mom!

Surviving to cherish her memories are daughter, Sharleen (Shar) K. Petersen, Cedar Rapids; sons: Dennis B. (LaDonna), Darrel of Merrill and Donald of Hinton; nine grandchildren: Pamela K. (Joe) Bays of Smithville, Mo, Denise R. Mitchell and Dr. Bradley D. (Stacey) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Nicole (Dr. Todd) Goodwin of Kingsley, Brian D. (Jennifer) Newberg of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tamie (Sean) Blackmore of Battle Creek, IA, Corey Newberg and Brett (Shannon) Newberg of Merrill, and Laura (Dan) Hoffman of Granger; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Kovarna; one sister, DeLores Parry; four brothers: Donald, Robert, Stanley and Marvin; and a son-in-law, Stan Petersen.
