Lois Kauffman, 84, of Remsen, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Private family graveside services will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Lois Jean Utech, the daughter of Herman and Lois (Scott) Utech, was born on May 2, 1939, in Sioux County, Iowa. She attended school in Hawarden where she graduated.

She was united in marriage to Larry Ufken. To this union, 3 children were born: Jeanine, Jane, and Brad. They later divorced.

She was united in marriage to Leo Kauffman on November 4, 1980, in Cherokee, Iowa. She and Leo farmed near Cleghorn, Iowa. After their retirement, they moved to Le Mars in 1990. Leo passed away June 26, 2013. Lois continued to make her home in Le Mars until moving to Bavarian Meadows in Remsen. In October of 2022, she became a resident of Happy Siesta in Remsen.

Lois was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. For over 20 years, she and Leo enjoyed wintering in Texas. They also enjoyed their trip to Germany to visit family. Lois also enjoyed listening to music, dancing, and shopping.

Survivors include her children: Jeanine (Lon) Penning of Le Mars, IA, Jane (Dennis) DeRocher of rural Merrill, IA, and Brad (Vicki) Ufken of Le Mars, IA;  her step daugthers: Laurie Larson of Le Mars, IA, and Deann Schmidt of Ankeny, IA; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; her sister, Genevieve (Robert) Busch of Tucson, AZ; her brother, Ron Utech of Ottumwa, IA; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lois Utech; her husband, Leo Kauffman; her brothers, Clinton (Frances) Utech and Frank (Sandy) Utech; and her sister, Charlene (Bob) Otis.
