Lois Varenhorst, 97, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

There will be a private family graveside service at a later date at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Lois Marian Haage was born on May 8, 1928, in Plymouth County, Iowa, to Herman and Elizabeth (Ludwigs) Haage.

She was united in marriage to Norman Varenhorst on April 8, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. When she was not helping on the farm and raising her family, she was in her flower and vegetable gardens or working on a craft project.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, Iowa.

Lois is survived by her children, Patsy (Dean) Cook and Jerry (Donna) Varenhorst; grandchildren: Jennifer (James) Weesner, Ashley (Kyle) Fritz, and Adam (Erica) Varenhorst; great grandchildren, Myiah and Ashton Weesner, Tenley, Nolan, and Emerson Fritz; and Theodore and Elizabeth Varenhorst.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Varenhorst in 2011; her sister, Dorothy (Merlin) Utesch; and a great granddaughter, Angelina.
