Obituary

Lorraine Ruden , 95, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of rural Struble, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Struble. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Lorraine's name to Gehlen Catholic School.

Lorraine Hoss was born July 5, 1924 in rural Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Clara (Dennler) Hoss. She grew up on a farm west of Le Mars, Iowa. She attended school in Le Mars and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School. Lorraine worked as a secretary for the Monte Cass Grain Company prior to her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Ray Ruden on June 6, 1944 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, the couple farmed their entire life in Plymouth County and farmed near Struble, Iowa since 1956. In 1976, they semi-retired from farming. Ray passed away July 5, 2007. Lorraine moved to Le Mars in May of 2013 and to Park Place Estates in 2017.

Lorraine was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's accomplishments. She was a devout woman and faithful to her daily rosary. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble and the Altar Society. She was involved with the choir and played the organ for over 50 years until the partial closing of the church in 2015. She enjoyed her garden, canning, baking bread and chocolate chip cookies, and crocheting. She got the name "Cookeze" on her car license plates.

Survivors include her children: Larry (Sharon) Ruden of Le Mars, Herb Ruden (Sue Jensen) of Estherville, IA, Gary (Kathy) Ruden and Bob (Kay) Ruden, all of Le Mars, Bev Paulin (Mac McMillan) of Minot, ND, and Phil (Linda) Ruden of Omaha, NE; 30 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; her in laws: Mary Ann Mousel, Eldon (Mildred) Ruden, Cy Ahlers, Jeannie Woll all of Le Mars, Erma Bush of Cleghorn, IA, and Tom (Marva) Ruden of East Alton, IL; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Millie Gearke of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ruden; 3 daughters: Bonnie Ney, Helen Renken, and a daughter in infancy; her parents, Bert and Clara Hoss; her father and mother in law: Joe and Mary Ruden; her daughters in law: Linda Ruden and Joanie Ney; her sons in law: Don Ney, Dennis Renken, and Jordan Paulin; grandson Terry Ney; her siblings: Richard, Celeste and Mildred Hoss, Don and Freda Hoss, Marjorie and Silvius Ruden; her in laws: Walter Ruden USN, Harold and Gracie Ruden, Joe and Bonnie Ruden, Florence and Bernie Madsen, Leroy Mousel, Robert Ahlers, Larry "Butch" Woll, and Leland Bush.
