Lorraine Mae Deiterman , 82, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Bruce Lawler from All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Services will be uploaded to the funeral home website following the services. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public visitation, with no family present, and limited to 15 people at a time practicing social distancing and wearing a mask will be on Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
The former Lorraine Mae Skinner was born March 13, 1938 on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Fern (Hamilton) Skinner. She was raised in the Akron and Hawarden area. She attended country school near Akron and Hawarden.
She was united in marriage to Leo Deiterman on June 22, 1954 in Jefferson, South Dakota. They moved around a bit while Leo worked on building roads. In 1965, they to moved to their current home near Merrill, Iowa.
Lorraine worked at Swift Dairy and Produce in Sioux City, Iowa for 5 years, Harkers and Tyson in Le Mars for 15 years, and then Wells Dairy for 6 years before retiring in 2002.
Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and crafts. Most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of over 66 years, Leo of Merrill, IA; 3 sons: Danny Deiterman of Omaha, NE, Dennis Deiterman (Roxanne Popken) of Missouri, and Dean Deiterman of Akron, IA; 2 daughters: Deborah Ulven (Joseph Hobbs) of New Mexico and Darla Heronimus of Wyoming; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother: Roger (Patty) Skinner of Elk Point, SD; 2 sisters: Lois Ann (Douglas) Wagner of Jefferson, SD and Janet Sayler of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Fern Skinner; her daughter, Diane Webster; her sister, Nadine (Roy) Sexton; a grandson; 3 sons in law; a daughter in law; and in laws: Ardel Sayler, Gerald Deiterman, Donald Deiterman, and Glennes Deiterman.
