Lucymae Clausen, 84 of Elk Point, SD and formerly of Craig, IA, passed away on July 13, 2022 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, IA.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, IA. Burial will follow at St. John's Evangelical Cemetery in Craig, IA. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Lucymae Hall was born on January 26, 1938 in Pender, Nebraska to John and Catherine (Thomas) Hall. She grew up in Sergeant Bluff and attended school at Sioux City East. Lucymae graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1956. She then attended and graduated with a degree in education from Iowa State University in 1959. Lucymae began her teaching career with a job in Council Bluffs, IA. She then made her home in Westfield, Iowa and began teaching at Akron-Westfield schools. She later attended and graduated in 1968 from USD with a Masters in Natural Sciences.
Lucymae was united in marriage to Gail Clausen; they made their home in Craig, Iowa and were together for nearly 55 years.
Lucymae taught advanced math at Akron-Westfield for 31 years before she retired due to Gail's failing health. She later went back to teach at WIT in Sioux City where she continued to teach advanced math for 10 years.
Lucymae was a longtime member at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, IA. Lucymae enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, and thrift shopping. Lucymae and Gail would go fishing together and volunteered to make pancakes at the Brunsville American Legion breakfasts. They also enjoyed traveling; especially to Missouri, California, and Ohio to see family. Lucymae always looked forward to her monthly lunch dates with 'The Girls of East High 1956' and helped plan many high school reunions. In her later years, Lucymae really loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Lucymae is survived by her children: Gail Clausen II of Van Wert, IA, Julia Brockhaus of Moville, IA, Sandra McMahan of Elk Point, SD, Sara Clausen of La Vista, NE, and Janice (JC) Lawton of Branson, MO; 19 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings: John (Berniece) Hall of Omaha, NE, Frank (Jewell) Hall of Chula Vista, CA, and Jim (Margaret) Hall of Richland, MO; daughter in law, Linnea Clausen of Craig, IA; siblings in law: Larry Clausen of Sioux City, IA, Darrell (Vesta) Clausen of Sioux City, IA, and Mary Clausen of Akron, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Lucymae is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gail; parents in law, Claus and Elsie Clausen; son, Gailen Clausen; daughter, Judy (Jim) Bahler; son in law, Dale McMahan; daughter in law, Connie Clausen; and siblings in law: Royle (Marjorie) Clausen, Arnold (Berniece) Clausen, Bernard (Dawn) Clausen, Richard Clausen, and Dorothy Clausen.
