Obituary

Margaret "Maggie" Singer Ideker, 100, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her home in Le Mars surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars.  There will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Margaret Ann Gotto, the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Schleis) Gotto, was born January 15, 1923, on a farm near Mapleton, Iowa.  As a child, she moved with her family to a farm near Remsen, Iowa.  She attended school in Remsen and graduated from Remsen Union High School.

Following high school, she worked as a bar maid for her brother's bar.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Singer on June 3, 1947 in Remsen.  They made their home in Le Mars.  Maggie was a homemaker for her family.  After her children were grown, she did housekeeping in Le Mars.  Melvin passed away on September 1, 1980.

She was united in marriage to Merlin Ideker on June 24, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  They lived in California for 8 years before moving back to Le Mars.  Merlin passed away on October 12, 2010.

Maggie was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars.  She loved to dance and listen to music.  She always looked forward to the Singer June Jam every year.  She would often be found singing along with them or playing her kazoo.  She enjoyed taking many trips with her niece Karen and going on cruises.  Maggie also enjoyed a good game of 31 and playing bingo.  She also enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos. Spending time with her family and friends was her greatest joy.

Survivors include her 4 sons: Ken (Linda) Singer of Chisago City, MN, Dan (Jo Ann) Singer of Le Mars, IA, Gary (Sherry) Singer of Katy, TX, and Curt (Lori) Singer of Harrisburg, SD; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Melvin Singer and Merlin Ideker; her son, Randy Singer; her stepson, Richard Singer; her sisters: Eunice (Walt) Kunkel and Elizabeth (Francis) Singer; and her brothers: Johnny (Ella) Gotto, Benny (Loretta) Gotto, Irvin (Marion) Gotto, Norbert (Virginia) Gotto, and Everett (Joyce) Gotto.
