Obituary

Margaret A. Grosenheider , 94, of Le Mars, IA was united with her Lord and the love of her li fe , husband Lloyd Grosenheider on January 22, 2021.

Margaret , ( also fondly known as Gramma Maggie ) was born November 6, 1926 on a farm near Hinton, Iowa, the 4 th of nine children of John Joseph and Bridget Agnes (McLaughlin) Geary. Margaret was raised in the Le Mars area and attended Clark Elementary School and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1944.

After graduation, Margaret taught school in a rural one room schoolhouse . She later was employed by Wells Blue Bunny. Margaret then accepted employment at Model Cleaners in Le Mars when she met her future husband, Lloyd Grosenheider.  They were united in marriage on February 19, 1949 in Cherokee, Iowa.  She continued working until their family arrived and she became a stay at home mom. Margaret was a longtime seamstress and did alterations until the children went to school . She then began her 20 - year career work ing at Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars . When her husband , Lloyd became ill, she retired to care for him. Lloyd passed away on September 4, 1983.

Margaret was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars , the American Legion Auxiliary and the Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary . She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and other crafts. One of her proudest accomplishments was crocheting double bed size afghans for her family, 14 in all . During her retirement she happily embroidered dozens of tea towels for the FVH Auxiliary Gift Shop. She enjoyed eating at the Congregate Meals , playing pinochle and visiting with friends .

Survivors include her two children, Joan ie (Don) Overman of Rochester , MN and David L. (Ann) Grosenheider of Kansas City, MO; 5 granddaughters, Stacey (Reed) Pick, Katy (Garrett) Schramm , Sarah (Tom) Webb, Laura (Andrew) Nelson, Amy Grosenheider and fiancé Grant Fergerson .  Margaret was blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Lainey and Jack Pick, Keely, Sally, and Van Schramm , Tyler Webb, and Adley and Noelle Nelson whom she loved with all her heart. Surviving siblings Agnes Thelen of Le Mars , IA , Joseph (Margene) Geary of Hinton, IA , and two sister in law s, Eileen Geary of Sioux City, IA and Leone Geary of Marion , IA and many nieces and nephews on both the Geary and Grosenheider sides of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd Grosenheider; siblings and spouses: Vince Geary, Rosemary and William Leber , Bernard Geary and wives, Ruth and Nellie, Cecilia and Gene Hutton, Richard and Bonnie Geary, James Thelen , and Thomas (Leo) Geary and Father and Mother In Law, Emil Sr. and Anna ( Pageler ) Grosenheider, in laws: Lula and Hilbert McClintock, Jack and Dorothy Grosenheider, Englebert (Ace) and Lorraine Penning, William and Arlene Grady, Earnest and Anna Charlson , Theodore and Minnie Reuther, Alvin and Ruby Grosenheider, Emil Jr. and Fern Grosenheider, William (Bill) and Florence Grosenheider, And several nieces and nephews.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, private family services will be held at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Reverend Christian B. Meier from St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars will officiate.  Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Services will be uploaded to the Rexwinkel Funeral Home website following services. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
