Marlo Petersen, 51 of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton, Iowa. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Garden in rural Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Marlo Arthur Petersen was born on April 12, 1974 in Sioux City, Iowa to Melfred 'Bud' and Marlene (Knoell) Petersen. He was raised on their family farm in rural Hinton. He was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Marlo graduated from Hinton High School in 1992 and continued his education at WIT in Sioux City where he received his degree in automotive technology.
Marlo worked as a mechanic, beginning his career at Knoefler Chevrolet and later Team Ford, both in Sioux City, Iowa. He later moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa where he worked at Toyota in Spirit Lake and most recently was working for Ford in Worthington, MN. Marlo also drove truck for SHI Trucking.
Marlo has a passion for farming since he was a young child and for the last four years, he raised crops in southern Iowa. He was driven, reliable, and was never afraid of hard work.
Marlo was united in marriage to Analou Omayana on August 16, 2016 and they made their home in Spirit Lake.
In his free time, Marlo enjoyed bowling and he was pretty good at it. You could always count on Marlo to lend a hand and he never expected anything in return.
Marlo is survived by his wife, Analou; two children: Zion Han and Zoey Rae; his parents, Bud and Marlene; his siblings: Myla (Dean) Ponder, Michael (Denise) Petersen, Miles (Diana) Petersen, Marlaena (Richard) Hartness, and Mark (Molly) Petersen; many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Marlo is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Dorthea Petersen; and maternal grandparents, Ernest and Mabel Knoell.
