Mary Clarey, 73, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023, at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Deacon Richard Port will officiate. There will be a Parish Rosary following the service. Burial will be at a later date at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.

Mary Etta Clarey, the daughter of Thomas and Margie (Harvey) Clarey, was born on March 24, 1950, in Akron, Iowa. As a young child, she moved with her family to California. She attended school in Carson, California, and graduated from Carson High School.
At the age of 20, she got married and started her family. Mary did many jobs throughout her life. Taking care of her children and others was the job she enjoyed most. Mary lived in California and Iowa for most of her life. For the past eight years, she has lived in Sioux City.
Mary enjoyed doing macrame and ceramics. She also enjoyed traveling and hosting 4th of July parties. Her family was her greatest joy, she loved being "Mema" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Melissa (Todd) Ste. Marie of Tombstone, AZ, Rebecca Mead (Chris Back) of Sioux City, IA, and Amy Hart (fiancé, Travis Hoffer) of Akron, IA; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one on the way; her siblings: Marsha Clarey of Akron, IA, Thomas (Bonnie) Clarey of Marion, IA, Michele (Steve) Herzog of Pahrump, NV, Lori Gale (Bob Popken) of Akron, IA, and Angie Clarey of Akron, IA; a brother in law, Ted Quackenbush of California; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margie Clarey; her siblings: Marlene Quackenbush, Deborah (Tom) Welch, and Margaret Clarey; a brother-in-law, Donald Gale; a granddaughter in law, Sara Delgado-Hart; a niece in infancy, Margie Wojahn; and a nephew, Teddy Quackenbush.
