Mary Margaret Rupp was born June 14, 1938 in Cherokee, IA, the daughter of Carl and Lillian Rupp.  She was baptized and confirmed at Maryhill Visitation Church in rural Cherokee, IA.

She attended grade school at Cleghorn and later high school at Washington High School in Cherokee.  She then attended Iowa State University in Ames, where she received a B.S. in Home Economics.  While at Iowa State, she was a proud member of the Delta Zeta sorority and remained active for many years after her graduation.  She spent her college summers touring east coast cities such as New York City and Philadelphia on her own.

Mary was united in marriage to Roy "Red" Messerole on June 1, 1963 at Maryhill Visitation Church.  To this union, 4 children were born: Mike, Bill, Tom, and Suzy.

She taught at Glenwood High School and Breda St. Bernards before leaving education to raise her four children.  Mary returned to work once her children reached school age.  Her last employment before retiring was at KLEM radio in Le Mars where she was the receptionist for many years.

Mary enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in school activities.  She and Roy often traveled to Arizona, California, Colorado, North Carolina and Minnesota to visit their children and grandkids.  Mary was an active member of All Saints Parish in Le Mars.  She served communion at area nursing homes and also volunteered with Hospice.  She was especially interested in supporting organizations that focused on helping youth and women.   Mary and Roy were very active in many other civic organizations and worked together as a team.
