Mary Strub, 91, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Bickford Senior Living in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mary Frances Horton was born on August 1, 1930 to Horace and Irene (Carey) Horton in Plymouth County, Iowa. She was raised in Merrill and graduated from Merrill High School in 1948. Mary was united in marriage to James 'Jim' Strub on May 29, 1948 at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa. They made their home on the farm in rural Merrill in 1962.

Mary took great pride in caring for her family; she worked on the farm alongside Jim doing all the bookwork and preparing meals for those in the fields. In her teenage years, Mary really enjoyed working at the grocery store in Merrill. Mary also worked at the Merrill Community School for a short time and later worked in the office at Farm Services in West Le Mars, IA.

Mary enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Mary and Jim played in card clubs for many years and they enjoyed traveling south and spending their winters in Arizona, Texas, and Florida. Mary and Jim also loved their holiday parties spent with their local Merrill friends. Mary's favorite time though was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved being there and supporting them in their sports, academic programs, and extracurricular events

Mary is survived by her three sons: James Strub, Jonathon (Yanin) Strub, and Joseph (Carolyn) Strub; grandchildren: Jamie (Angie) Strub, Andy Strub, Chris (Victoria) Strub, Paxton Strub, C.J. Strub, Kailey (Domingo) Marin, Kelly Prince, and Stephanie Avila; great grandchildren: Taylor Strub, Katelyn Strub, Cooper Strub, Kash Strub, and Gavin Marin; sister, Connie Wimer; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and brother, Tom (Helen) Horton.
