Micheal Jones

Micheal James Jones, 27 Of Sioux City, lowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at UnityPoint Health — Downtown, surrounded by family and friends, following a courageous battle with Diffuse Midline Glioma Brain Tumor.

Mike was born on July 16th, 1999, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of James Jones and Sonora Swords. Mike lived his life to the fullest, he was grateful and humble living with his cancer diagnosis. Early on, Mike decided his mission would to be donate his brain to the Gift from a Child program. The Children's Brain Tumor Network will be the recipient of tissue samples. Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital Of Chicago was the Gift from a Child Center of Excellence that facilitated the donation.

Mike grew up in Sioux City, he was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and graduated from East High school in 2018. Mike worked at Jolly Time Popcorn, Equipt Truck & Machinery Inc. and most recently at Gill Hauling-aka Waste Connections until his illness prevented him from working in December 2025.

Left to cherish Mike's memory are his parents: James Jones (Rachael), Sonora Swords (Kyle); brother, Keenan Fouts; step brothers, Aiden and Miles Uhl; grandparents, Newell (Wade) and Mary Swords, Myrna Jones and Dennis and Karla Uhl, along with several cousins, aunts and uncles and extended family.

It was Mikes' wishes to give back to the foundations that helped his family throughout his journey. These foundations were very instrumental and helpful in providing emotional and financial stability for Mike throughout this 17th month journey. They truly wanted Mike and his family to find joy in the horrible journey that was being endured. They will always remain a part of our forever family.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to emilyslightfoundation.org and/or Tough2gether.org

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patricia and Jan Olson and James W. Jones.

Mike found his happiness in playing video games. His favorites were Red Dead Redemption, GTA and Fallout. Another passtime was watching Adult Swim on tv, especially Rick & Morty. Working on his vehicles and  his ruby colored Ford pickup aka Ruby J was his prized possession.

Mike had a passion for all genres of music. Music helped him get through some of the toughest moments. His personality spoke volumes. A young man with a gentle spirit, easy going nature and a quiet determination to build a meaningful life. Beneath this calm exterior was an ambitious heart, yet he was authentic with family and friends that he deeply care about. As stated by his mom, "almost to a fault". He loved deeply and wholeheartedly. Leaving those fortunate enough to know him with memories of kindness, warmth and unconditional love.

Mike was far too young to leave this world and there will always be a profound sense of lost for all that he should have had the opportunity to experience, but his life was not defined by his illness. He was defined by the person he was, kind, generous, ambitious, loving, selfless and quietly strong. His life was a gift, His love was his legacy and he will forever be remembered.
