Obituary

Mildred Baker , 100, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021 at the Akron Care Center.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Neil Peck will officiate.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.  Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Memorials can be made in Mildred's name to Wesley United Methodist Church, Akron Library, or the Akron Care Center.

Mildred was born December 2, 1920 to Roscoe and Emily (Asmann) Eshleman near East End, Saskatchewan, Canada.  She graduated from Akron High School in 1938, received her B.S.Ed. from the University of South Dakota in 1965, and her M.S.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from U.S.D. in 1969.

She taught country school in Plymouth County, IA for 6 years and elementary and middle school grades of the Akron Public Schools from 1961 to 1982.

Mildred married Rollo John Jr. "Jack" Baker in 1940.  She later married Harold "Hal" Baker in 1975 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron.

Mildred became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron in 1946 and served her church as a Sunday school teacher and officer in the WSCS.  She was Past President of the Akron Opera House, also directing and acting in plays, and served on the Akron Public Library Board of Trustees for 6 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam (Daycleth "Doc") Walker of Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Scott (Jane) Baker of Portland, OR; 2 grandsons, Alec and Kyle Baker; 2 stepsons, Skip (Norma) Baker of Angola, IN, and Robert (Lynn) Baker of Norfolk, NE; a stepdaughter, Roberta (Randy) Wagner of Hoskin, NE; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Baker; her parents; her uncle and aunt, Melvin "Dick" and Ida Smith; 5 siblings; her son, Jeffrey Baker; and a daughter in law, Mary Baker.
