Norma Martfeld, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, June 21, 2024, at Accura HealthCare of Le Mars.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Matt Wentz will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Meriden, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from noon until service time on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the funeral home and following the service during a light reception at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made in Norma's name to the Le Mars Church of Christ, Plymouth County Museum, Care Initiatives Hospice, or to a favorite charity of your choice.
Norma Jean Mason, the daughter of Claud and Mary (Moore) Mason, was born on November 26, 1935, in Hartley, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Sutherland, Iowa where she attended country school. When she was in the 6th grade, she moved with her family near Calumet, Iowa. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1954.
Following high school, she attended Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis for 2 years. She then attended Practical Nursing School in Clarinda, Iowa for a year and graduated in 1957 with her LPN certificate. She moved to Le Mars and worked at Sacred Heart Hospital for 18 years. She later went to work for Plymouth Manor in Le Mars for 25 years.
She was united in marriage to Eddie Martfeld on February 1, 1982, at the Church of Christ parsonage in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Le Mars. After Norma retired, she helped Eddie with his lawn mowing and snow removal service, which she enjoyed. Eddie passed away on February 5, 2015. Norma continued to make her home in Le Mars.
She was a charter member of the Le Mars Church of Christ where she enjoyed volunteering with youth activities and all other functions. She volunteered at the Christian Needs Center in Le Mars for many years and did babysitting. She was a charter member of the Plymouth Manor Promotors organization. Norma also volunteered at the Plymouth County Museum for many years. Family was very important to Norma and Eddie, they maintained very close relationships with them, especially their nieces and nephews. They always enjoyed visiting with them.
Survivors include her sister, Barbara (Allen) Burnham of Truman, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Martfeld; her sisters, Peggy (Leon) Chase and Dee Mason; her in laws: Walt (Ruby) Martfeld, Irene (Don) Winchester, Lucille (Harry) Berg, and Judy Beeck; and two nephews, Larry Winchester and Joe Delashmutt.
