Orville Durr, 78 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at his home in Le Mars.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in rural Le Mars. Visitation with the family will be from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
Pallbearers will be Scott Durr, Jackie Kass, Todd Caswell, Curtis Durr, Troy Caswell, and Whitney Ball. Honorary Pallbearers will be Aislinn Durr and Ethan Durr.
Orville Everett Durr was born in Le Mars, Iowa to Orville and Colleen (Simons) Durr. He was raised in Le Mars and attended Le Mars Community Schools. After his schooling, he worked various jobs in Le Mars. On February 27, 1960, Orville was united in marriage to Charlene Plueger and they made their home in Le Mars. They moved to California for a short time while Orville worked for an aircraft manufacturer. They moved back to Le Mars and Orville began working for Roger DeYoung Excavating where he primarily dug basements. He later began a 30 year career with the City of Le Mars where he worked for the street department.
Orville was a talented musician. He was a long-time member of the 'Orville Durr Band' where he played guitar, bass guitar, and sang. The band was members of the Durr family; his father, Orville, and his brothers: Terry and Rod. They were accompanied by several pianists over the years, and most recently they played with Ramona Ludwigs. They performed in various capacities for over 25 years all over Plymouth County, Iowa performing mostly country and swing cover songs.
Orville also enjoyed fishing, camping, and gambling! He also had a love for horses and owned several over the years.
Orville is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlene; children: Tom (Rachel) Durr, Rick Durr, Kevin (Nanette) Durr, Rhonda (Brian) Caswell, and Mike (Sandi Wiig) Durr; 8 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; siblings: Patty (Leonard) Plueger, Terry Durr (special friend, Nancy Rodgers), Linda Durr (special friend, John Robinette), and Rodney (Beth) Durr; brothers in law: Robert EC Plueger, Arlan (Starla) Plueger, and Denny (Marilyn) Plueger; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Orville is preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, Bill Stabe; sister in law, Mabel Durr; parents in law, Charlie and Freda Plueger; and siblings in law, Ernie (Delaine) Plueger, Bernice (Wilmer) Knutson, Donna Plueger, and Patricia Plueger.
