Patricia "Trish" Rohlfs, 64, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Eric Alm from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. The family will be present at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa.

Patricia Esther Herrboldt, the daughter of Melvin and Esther (Wollman) Herrboldt, was born on August 31, 1958, in Freeman, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Menno, South Dakota. She attended country school and later went to school in Menno, South Dakota. She graduated from Menno High School in 1976.

Following high school, she worked as a receptionist for Indian Affairs of South Dakota before going to nursing school at the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota. She later transferred to South Dakota State University and graduated in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. After college, she worked as a nurse in Boise, Idaho for a short time. She then moved back to Rapid City and worked at Rapid City Regional as a nurse before becoming a traveling nurse in 1991. She lived in the cities of Louisville, KY, Winchester, VA, St. Louis, MO, and Abilene, TX before ending her traveling career in 1993.

While traveling, she met Arlo Rohlfs through coworkers of hers. They were united in marriage on August 6, 1994, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.

She continued to work as a nurse in Sioux City for a short period before starting her 30-year career at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. For most of that time, she worked in ICU before transferring to central scheduling at Avera Health to have more time to spend with family.

In 2000, they began the adoption process with Holt International. In November of 2002, she and her husband traveled to China to pick up her daughter. She, her husband, and her 17-month-old daughter, Emme Rohlfs, returned to the states on Thanksgiving Day in 2002.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Her hobbies included doing craftwork, sewing, and embroidery. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. She could often be found reading a book. She also enjoyed tending to flower gardens.

She is survived by her husband, Arlo Rohlfs of Akron, IA; her daughter, Emme Rohlfs of Denver, CO; her two sisters: Marcelline (Roland) Marquardt of Las Vegas, NV, and Rosemarie Schamber of Lincoln, NE; her brother, DuWayne Herrboldt of Lesterville, SD; and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Michael Rohlfs; a sister-in-law, Lugene Theel; and a niece, Ashley Julian.
