Paul Joseph Sitzmann was born on September 5, 1931 in Le Mars, Iowa to Edward Sr and Agnes (Carel) Sitzmann. He was raised on the family farm in Neptune, rural Hinton and attended Trinity School (an all-boys Catholic school) in Sioux City. Paul enlisted in the United States military in 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in both Korea and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the farm. Paul was united in marriage to Barbara O’Bryan on August 8, 1959 in Sioux City.

Paul was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Neptune and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 and the Last Man Standing club. Paul also served three terms as a Plymouth County supervisor.

Paul was a lifelong farmer, starting as a child growing up on the farm and continuing to check on the farm into his retirement years. He enjoyed going golfing and fishing. He loved all sports, making many memorable road trips with friends to watch college sports. In his younger years he participated in boxing matches in Sioux City. Paul also loved a trip to the casino and a chance to gamble; his luck brought home various items such as a lawnmower, a motorized bike, and various animals. Paul loved his family dearly; he never missed a family event: birthday or church celebration, school event or sporting game.

He had a way of never meeting a stranger. Whether around town or far from home, he was sure to run into someone he knew. Paul was a familiar, respected face in the community and he will be missed.

Paul is survived by 12 children: Todd (Lisa) Sitzmann, Terri (Russ) Holzman, Lynn (Dan) Dull, Annette (Jody) Vlotho, Mitch (Annette) Sitzmann, Kim (Todd) Pick, Kyle (Lisa) Sitzmann, Bill (Valerie) Sitzmann, Betty (Larry) Harms, Gary (Nikki) Sitzmann, Corey (Becky) Sitzmann, and Eric (Kelly) Sitzmann; 37 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren with two on the way; sister, Alyce Reuter; sister in law, Rita Sitzmann; many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
