Phillip Wayne Schoenrock, the son of Eldon and Edna (Kowalke) Schoenrock, was born on December 14, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up on a farm south of Le Mars. He attended Neptune School (rural Plymouth County, Iowa) for a few years before going to Merrill. He attended high school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Following high school, he attended Iowa Lake Community College, where he graduated with his degree in grain elevator management. Following college, he returned back to the farm near Le Mars where he farmed with his father and brothers. Phil also worked at the Sioux City Stockyards.

While working at the stockyards, he met a customer service representative, Gail Porter, from the stockyards bank. They started dating and eventually got married. They were united in marriage on July 29, 1978, at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They made their home on the Schoenrock family farm.

Phil continued to farm and raise livestock with his family. Aside from farming, in the early 1990’s, he began working as a delivery driver for Wells Dairy in Le Mars and later for Dean Foods, until his retirement. Phil also sold Funks Seed for many years.

Phil was lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, Iowa, where he was currently serving at the church council president. In his younger years, he was active in F.F.A. and 4-H. He was a 4-H leader for over 40 years. He enjoyed bowling, playing church softball, church dart league, playing cards, and riding horses. He served on the Iowa State Extension Council for Plymouth County. He loved attending cattle and rabbit shows where he’d catch up with many friends. He never met a stranger. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Gail of Le Mars, IA; two daughters: Ann Schoenrock (Brian Hermelbracht) of Hinton, IA, and his children, Rylie and Payton, and Katie (Dustin) Carter of Vermillion, SD, and their children, Paisley and Kolt; a brother: Doug (Becky) Schoenrock of Le Mars, IA; two step sisters: Marilyn Kreitzinger of Florida and Malinda Dyer of New Mexico; two sisters in law, Karen Schoenrock of Hinton; and Diane Schoenrock of Sioux City, IA; two brothers in law, Rich (Peggy) Porter of Sioux City, IA, and Mike Finigan of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Edna Schoenrock; his stepmother, Lydia Schoenrock; his father and mother in law, Robert and Bernice Porter; his brothers, Jerry Schoenrock and Curtis Schoenrock; and his stepbrother in law, Mark Kreitzinger.
