Obituary

Raymond Gene Becker, 92, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Hinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.  Pastor Laurice Streyffeler will officiate.  Burial will follow at Floyd Valley Cemetery, rural Merrill, Iowa.  Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.  The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  There will be a time of memory sharing at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will resume 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Gene's name to the Floyd Valley Cemetery Association.

Gene Becker was born on April 28, 1931, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Raymond Jacob and Cora Marjorie (Dunn) Becker.  He attended Spies Country school in Plymouth County and later high school in Merrill.  He graduated from Merrill High School in 1950.  After graduation from high school, he helped his father farm.

Gene served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.  He served his country during the Korean War.  He was a heavy equipment operator attached to the Air Force.  He was stationed in Korea for one year, helping build air strips and roads.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Plymouth County.

On June 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Grace Bock.  The couple farmed in Plymouth County.  In April of 1965, they moved to the family farm in Lincoln Township, the farm which his grandfather, Joseph Becker was born.  Gene continued to farm.  Gene was elected to two terms for the Board of Directors for the Farmers' Cooperative Elevator in Hinton, Iowa.  He also raised and fed cattle for many years.  After the couple retired and moved to senior living, he continued to visit the farm that has been in the family for over 150 years.

Survivors include his wife of over 68 years, Grace of Sioux City, IA; their children: Lucinda Willer of Sheboygan, WI, Brenda (Stephen) Saunders of Springfield, MO, and Douglas (Peg) Becker of Hinton, IA; his sisters, M. Janice Albert of Le Mars, IA, and Rae Nanninga of Fort Dodge, IA; his grandchildren: Curtis (Rachel) Saunders of Waco, NE, Sean (Jessica) Saunders of Springfield, MO, Neal (Rebecca) Willer of Sheboygan Falls, WI, Rachel Willer of Seoul, South Korea, David Becker of Hinton, IA, and Alexis Becker of Sioux City, IA; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Dunn Becker; and a granddaughter in law, Stephany (TenNapel) Becker.
