Raymond Leo Langel , 93, longtime Le Mars resident and area farmer, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, surrounded by his family.

Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Public graveside service with social distancing will be at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present and practicing social distancing will be on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ray's name to Gehlen Catholic Schools.

Ray was the seventh child of ten children born to Frank and Christine (Rolfes) Langel on a farm near Oyens, Iowa on July 24, 1926. Later the family moved to Grandfather Theodore Langel's farm southeast of Le Mars. He attended St. Joseph's School in Le Mars and received an honorary high school diploma from Gehlen Catholic Schools on his 80th birthday.

Ray married Dorothy Ann Treinen on August 10, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Dorothy and Ray lived on the Frank Langel Family farm for 13 years before purchasing farmland southeast of Le Mars in 1963 when he began his own farming operation with the help of his three sons Steve, Dan and Jeff.

For many years in his spare time, Ray was a cattle spotter for Spencer Packing Company and also sold Crows Seed Corn, winning many awards and several trips with Dorothy including one to Hawaii.

Dorothy and Ray moved from their family farm to Le Mars several years ago. Ray and Dorothy also had a winter home in Naples, Florida for over 30 years. Recently they became residents of Park Place Estates.

Ray was a lifelong member and supporter of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars and Gehlen Catholic School. He enjoyed many years of golfing, boating, fishing, bowling, shuffleboard and competitive card games, but most of all he had a passion for farming and cherished his big Langel Family.

Survivors include Dorothy, his wife of almost 70 years; his five children: Christine (Eric) Larsen, Southport, Connecticut; Janice (Bill) Mishler, West Liberty, Iowa; Steve (LuAnn), Le Mars; Dan (Jenni), Le Mars; and Jeff (Charlotte), Arnolds Park; his sisters in law: Isabelle Laddasaw, JoEllen Treinen and Charlotte Townsend; his brothers in law: Bill Treinen and Terry Townsend, his 19 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was the last surviving member of the Christine and Frank Langel Family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen, Adele, Mildred and Mary Ellen; his brothers Ed, Victor, Bill, Lawrence and Clifford; his mother and father-in-law Sylvia and Leonard Treinen; his sisters-in-law Marilyn Forman, Joyce Treinen, Eileen Langel, Charlotte Langel and Helen Langel; his brothers-in-law Mark Treinen, John Forman, Lawrence Ney, Mark Bivins, Joseph Junkers and Henry Boden.
