Richard Huebner, 82 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 at VA-Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral Service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron with Pastor Susan Juilfs officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Richard LeRoy Wilhelm Huebner was born on          February 17, 1942 in Union County, SD to August and Anna (Vanderham) Huebner. He grew up on the    family farm attending country school in Pleasant Hill and then attended Akron Community high school. Richard entered the United States Army in 1963     serving in the states and was recalled to active duty in 1968 where he served 18 months overseas in Vietnam where he saw plenty of action. He was honorably     discharged in 1970.

Richard worked various jobs over the years including restaurants, bars (including Stormin' Norms in Elk Point), and he retired from John Morrell Packing Plant.

Richard was united in marriage to Francis Miller in 2004 and they made their home together in Akron. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He loved to keep busy and enjoyed cooking and other volunteer work at the Akron Senior Center. He also served as the president of the Country Music Association for five years.

Richard is survived by three step children: Terry (Julie) Miller, Deborah (Terry) Singer, and Patty (Arden) Heeren; son in law, Mark (Deb) Olson; 9 step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; sisters in law: Pat Huebner, and Norma Huebner; many     nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fran; daughter, Cindy Olson; three brothers: Mel (Irma) Huebner, Ed (Patricia) Huebner, and Norm Huebner; and nephew, Marv Huebner.
