Robert 'Bob' Kurth, 92 of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023 at All Saints Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Scriptural Prayer Service on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Following the Prayer Service there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary followed by a 4th Degree Chalice Service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gehlen Catholic School and Lions Club services for the blind.

Robert Louis (Bob) Kurth was born on September 16, 1931, in Mapleton, Iowa, and came to Le Mars in 1941 with his parents, LeRoy and Margaret (Mack) Kurth, six brothers and three sisters, where they farmed east of Le Mars. Bob went to country school in Mapleton and later attended and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Le Mars in 1949.

Bob worked on the family farm, along with neighboring farmers, for several years before working as a butcher at Harker & Ross, and then at Archie's Waeside. During that time he also served eight years with the United States Naval Reserve during the Korean War.

In 1956, Bob married Audrey Harrington in Salix, Iowa. They made their home in Le Mars and were blessed with six children: four daughters and two sons. They farmed until 1962 and then operated Kurth Oil Company and the Mobil gas station in town, selling Mobil products with tank wagon service to local farmers in addition to Pioneer seed corn. In 1970, Bob purchased and operated the Le Mars laundromat and bus depot on Central Avenue, while continuing to manage his oil business.

He eventually sold both businesses and became a realtor, working with Harold Ruden and Bill Pew, until forming Bob Kurth Realty from 1976-1995 and finishing his career with Lancaster Real Estate. While in real estate Bob developed some of his farmland into Golf View Estates where properties reside on McKurth Drive.

Bob was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving on the agricultural committee; Plymouth County Fair Board for 19 years, serving as commercial exhibit chairman most of those years, and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993. As a Lions Club member for 50 years, Bob served as president, secretary/treasurer, zone chairman for the district, district governor for two years, was a Melvin Jones Fellow, received the Warren Coleman Award and International President's Leadership Award, and served on the Board of Directors. Bob was a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, past president of Gehlen Catholic School's goal committee and band parents, and past chairman of the care review committee of The Abbey nursing home.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's/All Saints Catholic Church in Le Mars, serving as a lector, rosary leader and communion minister. He was a member of the American Legion and Le Mars Eagles Club, volunteering for many community activities.

Bob was admired for his integrity, kindness and compassion to all. He enjoyed being a farmer and serving the farming community with his businesses and advancing soil and water conservation efforts into his late eighties. He enjoyed drives in the country, taking scenic routes to appreciate the lay of the land. Bob cherished time with family and cheering his kids and grandkids on at sporting events. His hobbies included square dancing, collecting antique cars and gardening. He enjoyed fishing and camping, family vacations to Canada, and sail boating and gatherings at their lake house in Spirit Lake with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey, and six children: Roberta (Leon) Pottebaum of Granville, IA, Ken Kurth of Austin, TX, Dennis (Shirley) Kurth of Spirit Lake, IA, Mary Ann (David) Jungers of Sibley, IA, Margaret (Michael) Moynagh of Lake Elmo, MN, and Theresa Kurth of Minneapolis, MN; 14 grandchildren Evan (Jennica) Pottebaum, Adam (Heather) Pottebaum, Jacob (Breanne) Pottebaum, Kaylee (Nathan) Vos, Alex (Krista) Kurth, Julie (fiance Nathan) Kurth, Brittany Smeins, Sarah Jungers, Emily (Riley) Schneekloth, Eric Jungers, Megan (Nick) Pletsch, Ryan Moynagh, Michaela Moynagh, and Nolan Moynagh; 14 great grandchildren; brothers Bud (Judy) Kurth of Estherville, Iowa, and Joe (Joann) Kurth of Highland Park, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Margaret Kurth; parents-in-law Clinton and Margaret (Ryan) Harrington; siblings: Ann Margaret in infancy, Larry (Armella) Kurth, Mary (Lyle) Rosburg, Ron (Ester) Kurth, Paul (Rosie) Kurth, Gerald (Marlene) Kurth, Charlene (Delmer) Lehner; and sister-in-law Judy Kurth.
