Robert "Rob" Hughes , 52, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Pastor Susan Juilfs of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron will officiate.  Visitation with the family present with social distancing will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Robert Lee Hughes was born January 10, 1968 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Richard and Donna (Boettger) Hughes.  He attended school in Merrill and Le Mars.  Following his schooling, he began working for Wells Enterprises in Le Mars.  Rob has worked for over 36 years for Wells, most recently as a crew leader.

He was united in marriage to Melissa Rabey on October 3, 1998 in Akron. They lived in Le Mars and Merrill before making their home on an acreage south of Akron.

Rob loved being outdoors.  He was an avid fisherman and spent much of his time on the Big Sioux River catfishing.  He also enjoyed hunting.  When his children were younger, he enjoyed taking them camping.  His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Akron; 4 children: Travis Hughes of Akron, Iowa and his children, Bryse and Everlee; Jessica Hughes of Merrill, Iowa, and her children, Hayden and Mason; Zachary Hughes of Akron, Iowa; and Andrea Hughes of Akron, Iowa; his mother, Donna Terrell of Merrill, Iowa; his siblings: David (Michelle) Hughes of Oyens, Iowa, Allen Hughes of Merrill, Iowa, Christopher (Cindy) Hughes of Westfield, Iowa, and Susan (Eric) Kaster of George, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hughes; stepfather Gary Terrell; paternal grandparents, Glen and Bernadine Hughes; and maternal grandparents, Herbert and Hilda Boettger.
