Roxanne Powell , 50, of Tea, South Dakota passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Trish Underberg from St. John's Lutheran Church – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery – Preston Township, rural Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
Roxanne Michelle Borchers was born November 10, 1971, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Dean Borchers and Nancee Campbell. She began her schooling in Akron before moving to Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1990. She attended college at Mankato State in Mankato, Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology. She furthered her education and received her Master's in Psychology.
She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jeff Powell, on June 28, 1995, in the Bahamas. After attaining her master's degree, they moved to Wisconsin where Roxanne worked as a vocational rehab counselor in La Crosse. After living in Sparta, Wisconsin for over 20 years, they moved to Tea, South Dakota in 2020 to be closer to family.
Roxanne loved the time spent with her family, especially her children. She enjoyed watching them participate in all their activities. She also enjoyed fishing on Leech Lake. Reading Danielle Steel novels was also one of her enjoyments as well as playing cards. She also enjoyed coloring in adult color books.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff of Tea, SD; two children: Spencer Powell of La Crosse, WI, and Alexa Powell of Tea, SD; her mother, Nancee Andrews of Beresford, SD; her father, Dean (Lynette) Borchers of Le Mars, IA; her mother in law, Arlene Urban of Le Mars, IA; her father in law, Ken Powell of Beresford, SD; her grandmother, Norma Jean Borchers of Le Mars, IA; her grandfather, Henry Murphy of Iowa Falls, IA; her siblings: Christy (Anthony) Rangel of Houston, TX, Amy (Troy) Gillespie of Sioux Falls, SD, Mary (Mike) Wickersham of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Michelle) Andrews of Beresford, SD, Jacob Borchers of Merrifield, MN, and Kyle Borchers of Sheldon, IA; a sister in law, Shelly Naja of Le Mars, IA; her faithful companion, "Diggy"; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Wendell Borchers, Jerry and Lois Powell, Rose and Henry Urban, Mary Murphy, and Eleanor Campbell; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Powell.
