Roy A. Sitzmann, 78, of Le Mars, Iowa, and formerly of Kingsley, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 15, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at All Saints Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Le Mars. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. and continue until the Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at All Saints Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN (411 2nd St NW, Rochester, MN 55901).

Roy Alan Sitzmann was born on January 16, 1947, in rural Hinton to Roy George and Martha Mary (Gengler) Sitzmann. He was raised on their family farm and attended a local country school. Roy attended Gehlen Catholic High School, graduating in 1965. He continued his education at Westmar College, graduating in 1970 with a degree in mathematics. During this time, he also enlisted in the United States Air National Guard, rising to the rank of captain. He was honorably discharged in 1980.

After graduating from Westmar College, he began working as a systems analyst at First National Bank in Sioux City. Roy was united in marriage to Mary Rolfes on June 3, 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Neptune, in rural Hinton, and they made their home in Sioux City.

Roy was a farmer to his core. After resigning from the bank in 1978, Roy and Mary moved to a farm in rural Kingsley and began farming full time. Roy loved everything about the farm – working the land, caring for the animals, and stewarding the place his family called home. Roy and Mary moved to Le Mars in 2014, but he never truly retired from farming; it wasn't just a career – it was who he was.

Roy was a previous member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Neptune, in rural Hinton, and they later joined All Saints Parish in Le Mars. Roy had a strong faith – one he demonstrated through his actions. While members at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Neptune, his family was very involved in church decorating, maintenance, and yard work. He sang in the choir and was a lector and a Eucharistic Minister. Roy also organized the Lincoln Stag, an annual church fundraiser.

Roy had a strong work ethic and an attention to detail that he carried into all aspects of his life. He was a proud grandpa, never missing a sporting event or a school pickup for the grandkids. He had a kind sense of humor and enjoyed teasing those he loved. He will be greatly missed.

Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary; and their four children and families: Brenda (Travis) Fetter of Raymore, MO; Alan (Abby) Sitzmann of Olathe, KS, and their children, Will and Kate; Bret (Laura) Sitzmann of Sioux Falls, SD, and their children, Dylan and Hannah; and Cole (Ashley) Sitzmann of Kingsley, IA, and their children, Landon and Claire. He is also survived by four siblings: Lon (Jan) Sitzmann of Kingsley, IA; Ted (Betty) Sitzmann of Le Mars; Gayle (Mick) Even of Le Mars; and Ellyn (Dave) Petersen of Hartley, IA; three foreign exchange students: Yolanda of Spain, Elisabeth of Norway, and Guillermo of Spain; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kent "Kenny" Sitzmann; his niece, Elizabeth Wilds; and a dear family friend, Cherry Cliff.

His legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to his family will live on through all who loved him.
