Obituary

Ruth D. Lowery , 100, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, Iowa. She was surrounded by family & her favorite music was playing as she departed from her body & was born into Heaven.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Ruth Darlene Lias, the daughter of Eugene and Florence (Rhodes) Lias, was born January 11, 1922 on the family farm south of Akron, Iowa. She attended country school in Plymouth County and high school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School.

Following high school, she moved to Santa Monica, California where she worked on the B-17 during WWII. While in California, she married Curtis Brand. To this union, a daughter Terry & a son Robert Brand were born. Terry died during birth. After the war, they moved to Fairfield, Iowa, where they owned and operated a grocery store.

She then moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska and began working for Younkers in Sioux City. She married Les Lowery. To this union, a son Bradley Lowery was born.

She moved back to the Akron area in 1972. She worked as a custodian at the school and was a caregiver for her mother. She was also a caregiver for many people in the Akron area. Ruth loved to share stories and loved her animals. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her two grandchildren: Shelly Brand of Sioux City, IA, and her children, Savannah, Chase, Chance, and Cheyenne; and Misty Brand of Le Mars, IA, and her children, Brendon and Beau; her great granddaughter Deidra (Derek) Lundquist , great great grandchildren, Brian ,Braelynn, Bentley, Bayleigh & many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, "Fruit Loop." A special mention of her devoted niece and caregiver Rhonda Hawks for last 10 years, with her care Ruth was able to remain in her home living independently with her feline friend "Fruitloop"

She was preceded in death by her parents; three children: Terry in infancy, Robert Brand, and Bradley Lowery; her grandson, Kelly; and her siblings: Harvey Lias, Lorraine Bauch, Robert Lias, and David "Bud" Lias.

In remembrance of Ruth the family invites all of us to practice acts of kindness, harmlessness and caring for each other, the less fortunate ~ people, animals, our soil, water and the well-being of our shared planet.
