Ruth Elaine Steunenberg

Ruth Steunenberg, 86, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Mitchell Hospice House in Sioux City, Iowa.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Richard Cogan from St. Croix Hospice will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Ruth Elaine Steunenberg, the daughter of Rev. Henri and Agnes (Kyuipers) Steunenberg, was born on October 12, 1939, in Rensselaer, Indiana. At a young age, she moved with her family to Boyden, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Boyden High School. Did her undergraduate studies at Northwestern College in Orange City. She obtained her master’s degree in education from Morningside College in Sioux City.

Ruth taught elementary school for the Le Mars Community School District for over 36 years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Le Mars. She loved her family, baseball, music, singing, and traveling.

She is survived by her brother, John Steunenberg of Sioux City; and numerous great friends, including her childhood friend, Sheila Berger, and Mary Holub from her volunteering days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Phyllis.
