Scott Donald Heyl, 63, of Hartford, South Dakota, formerly of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 25, 2025, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  There will be a private family service at 6:00 p.m.  Reverend Eric Alm will officiate.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

Scott Donald Heyl, the son of Donald Heyl and Betty (Lewison) Heyl, was born on February 28, 1961, in Akron, Iowa.  He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1979.  While in school, he played on the football team.

Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a firefighter.  Following his service, he returned to Akron and began working for the family business, Heyl Truck Lines in their Sioux Falls terminal.  Following his retirement in 2006, he settled in Hartford, South Dakota.

Scott enjoyed fishing in Pierre, South Dakota, with his friends.  He loved catching walleyes.  He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Rams.  He had a sense of humor and also enjoyed sharing a joke or two.

Survivors include his daughter, Amber Heyl; his father, Donald Heyl; his mother, Betty Heyl; his siblings: Linda (Terry) Christensen, Roger (Deanna) Heyl, Alan (Barbara) Heyl, David (Kim) Heyl, Stephany Winston, and Lindsey (Tim) Dacy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Heyl.
