Steven Sneller, 70, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City.
Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Mike Metten will officiate. Private family graveside services will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery – Preston Township, rural Akron, Iowa. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Steven Dean Sneller, the son of Dwayne and Joanne (Van Batavia) Sneller, was born on July 26, 1953, in Le Mars. Early on, he moved with his family to Williams, Iowa, where he attended grade school through the 8th grade. His family moved back to Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1971. Following high school, he attended Northeast Vocational College in Sheldon where he received training as a power lineman. He went to work for an electric cooperative in Burlington, Iowa. After a short time, he returned to Le Mars and went to work in the plumbing and heating business.
He was united in marriage to Janet Utesch on July 5, 1975, in Le Mars, Iowa. The couple made their home in Le Mars. To this union, four children were born: Jason, Jesse, Nicole, and Kent.
After working in the plumbing industry, Steve went to work for Harker's Distribution in Le Mars. He worked there for over 31 years. Steve then went to work for the parks department for the City of Le Mars until his retirement.
Steve was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church before becoming a member of Rejoice! Community Church. While at Calvin Christian Reformed, he played the bass guitar in the praise band. He loved Christian music and attending the Christian Music Festival. He also enjoyed listening to Charles Stanley. He was a ham radio operator for many years, operating under the call sign, KBOJHC. In his spare time, he enjoyed smoking meat on his smoker, fishing, and hunting. He loved the time spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his willingness to help those in need, often popping in to "check in" on family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Jan of Le Mars, IA; 4 children: Jason (Mindi) Sneller of Orange City, IA, Jesse (Heather) Sneller of Sioux City, IA, Nicole (Justin) Rolling of Le Mars, IA, and Kent Sneller of Le Mars, IA; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: David (Gerrie) Sneller of Valley Springs, SD, and Earl (Janice) Sneller of International Falls, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Merlin and Dorothy Utesch; a brother in infancy; and a grandchild in infancy.
