Steve Stratmeier , 69, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Reverend Jan Christensen from the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars will officiate. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Steve's name to Le Mars Little League, Iowa High School Rodeo Association, Plymouth County 4-H, or to a charity of your choice.

Steven Paul Stratmeier was born August 8, 1952 in Sibley, Iowa, the son of Jake and Pearl (Hassebroek) Stratmeier. He grew up on an acreage near Sibley. He attended school in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School. Horseback riding was instilled in Steve at an early age. He enjoyed spending time at the Stratmeier Ponderosa riding horses.

Following high school, Steve worked in construction and drove ambulance for the Spencer Hospital. During that time, he met Melanie Salmon. They were united in marriage. To this union, a daughter Elisha was born. They eventually settled near Le Mars, Iowa. Once they moved, Steve started and established Stratmeier Home Improvement Center in Le Mars. Steve and Melanie later divorced. In 2007, Steve met Monica Kibby Stratmeier. With this relationship, Steve gained four additional children, Logan, Brianna, Mya, and Addy. Steve was still running his business alongside his longtime employees, Tom Mayrose, Kevin Mroczkowski, and Tyler Ferguson, when he passed away.

Steve loved his animals, especially his horses and dogs. He participated in intramural sports for many years. He enjoyed mentoring to young children, whether it was coaching them in Little League and basketball or if they needed help in their personal life. He also enjoyed camping and boating.

Survivors include his significant other, Monica Stratmeier of Le Mars, Iowa and her children, Logan, Brianna, Mya, and Addy; his daughter, Elisha (Matt) McLarty of Sioux Falls, SD; his siblings: Lois Bolkema, Janet (Terry) Feldman, Danny Stratmeier, and Brenda Ackerman; his sister-in-law, Carol Stratmeier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Pearl Stratmeier; and his siblings, Sandra Mahlman and Larry Stratmeier; and a nephew, Jacob Daniel Stratmeier.
