Steven Theeler , 73, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron.  Reverend Paul Bormann will celebrate Mass with Deacon Richard Port assisting.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Akron.  Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  There will be a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary.  Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.  Social distancing and wearing a mask will be required for the visitation and services.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron.  For those unable to attended, services will be uploaded to the Rexwinkel Funeral Home website following services.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Steven Wayne Theeler was born October 14, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Darlene (Janssen) Theeler.  He attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Riverside High School.  Following high school, he began working in Sioux City.

He was united in marriage to Kay Niehus on July 17, 1971 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron.  Steve and Kay have made Akron their home since then.  Steve worked various jobs in Akron, including Nelson Hatchery, Dirk's Hardware, and Heyl Trucklines.  Most recently, he worked for Bomgaars in Hawarden until his retirement.

Steve was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron.  He also served on the Akron Fire Department for over 35 years with 6 of those years serving at Fire Chief.  He and Kay enjoyed attending many Iowa Firefighters Association Conventions throughout the state.  He also enjoyed fishing, watching Western movies and reading Western novels.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of Akron, IA; two sons: Wayne (Rachel) Theeler of Le Mars, IA, and Brad (Maureen) Theeler of Akron, IA; 5 grandchildren: Alesia (Tyler) Ode and their children, Oakland and Ivy; Daniel Larson; Andrew Theeler; Johanna Theeler; and Elizabeth Theeler; his step father, Ronald "Whitey" Wertanen of Baudette, MN; his siblings: Robert Theeler of Sioux City, IA, Craig (Kathy) Theeler of Sioux City, IA, Rick (Deb) Theeler of Des Moines, IA, Debra Theeler of Des Moines, IA, Donald (Silvia) Theeler of Germany, and Keith Wertanen of Baudette, MN; his brother in law, John Mullen of Dakota City, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandmother, Edna Janssen; and 3 siblings: John Theeler, Patricia Theeler, and Pam Mullen.
