Tanner Smith, 26, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 12, 2025, at his home in Seney.
A time of Memory Sharing will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to his family.
Tanner James Smith, the son of Tanya (Harper) Schroeder and Trent Smith, was born on May 31, 1998, in Vermillion, South Dakota. In August of 1999, he moved with his family to Le Mars where he attended and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 2017.
Following his schooling, he began working for Schroeder Construction, Jesse James Construction, and Niehus Construction. In his free time, you were almost guaranteed to find Tanner hanging out and working on derby cars with the T.B.L crew and jamming out to HIS music. On football Sundays, you would find him cheering on his Eagles and checking his fantasy team. Other hobbies of his included hunting, fishing and working on his numerous projects at home.
Survivors include his parents: Tanya and Preston Schroeder of Le Mars, IA, and Trent and Gemma Smith of Sioux City, IA; his brothers: Tyler Smith of Sheldon, IA, Trevor Smith of Le Mars, IA, and Parker Schroeder of Le Mars, IA; his grandparents: Corrine (Norman Kyrola) Smith of Hinton, IA, and Sharon and Cletus Sitzmann of Kingsley, IA; his aunts and uncles: Norm (Soni) Smith, Troy (Katie) Smith, Nicole (Jason) Westcott, Jay (Pam) Smith, Brad Harper, Tammy Harper, Tara Harper, Shelly (Steve) Ruden, Brenda Schroeder, Paul Schroeder, Jesse Schroeder, Nathan (Lindsey) Schroeder, and Natalie (Jason) Bohnenkamp; and numerous cousins, step cousins, and close friends who were like family to him.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Kathy Harper, Thomas Harper, and Johnny Smith.
