Thomas (Tom) Harvey Clarey, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, peacefully at home with his wife by his side, following a long-term illness.

Visitation with the family present will be held on May 23rd from 4 to 6 pm, Vigil Service and Rosary to follow at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com .

Thomas is survived by his wife Bonnie of 38 years, daughter, Elizabeth Clarey; son, Thomas R. Clarey; grandson Tommy Flansburg, and four sisters, Marsha Clarey, Shelly (Steve) Herzog, Lori Gale (Bob Popken), and Angie Clarey, along with a myriad of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mickey Clarey; and sisters, Mary Clarey, Debbie (Tom) Welch, Marlene Quackenbush, and Margaret Clarey; his brothers in-law Tom Welch and Don Gale; a Niece and a Nephew in infancy, many cousins, and other relatives.

Thomas was born on June 2, 1951, in Akron, IA, the son of Thomas and Margie (Harvey) Clarey. He graduated from Carson High school in California and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Thomas married Cynthia DeCue in 1972 and was later divorced.  Later, he married Bonnie Wuertz on August 2, 1986, in Cedar Rapids. Thomas was a truck driver in various capacities, including with Higman Sand and Gravel in Akron for many years.

Thomas loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He was known to enjoy Western culture, History, and maintained a fierce and everlasting love for his family throughout his life. He was always quick with a joke or a playful tease, especially with his nieces, nephews, and anyone lucky enough to be around him. Thomas brought much joy and laughter, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Any memorials will be used to cover costs for services and expenses incurred by local family.
